Support Continental School Students Through Arizona Educational Tax Credits

Students at Continental School are working toward an exciting educational opportunity. Each year, 8th grade students raise money to participate in a trip to Washington, D.C., where they can visit museums, memorials and historic sites while learning more about American government, history and civic responsibility.

For many students, experiences like this can bring classroom lessons to life in a way that textbooks simply cannot. Walking through national memorials, visiting museums and seeing important institutions firsthand can create memories and lessons that last for years.

One of the primary ways the students support the cost of this trip is through Arizona educational tax credit contributions. Many residents may not realize that eligible contributions to qualifying public school programs can potentially provide an Arizona state tax credit while helping support student activities.

Instead of thinking of it as simply making a donation, qualifying taxpayers may be able to direct a portion of their Arizona state tax liability toward eligible educational programs in their community. Tax-credit eligibility, limits and requirements can change, so contributors should review current Arizona Department of Revenue guidance or contact the school for details before making a contribution.

During the trip, students have the opportunity to experience some of the most significant educational and historical sites in the country. The goal is not simply to travel, but to help students better understand the history, institutions and civic ideals they study throughout the school year.

This effort was shared by Naomi Oesterle, a middle school teacher at Continental School and assistant sponsor of the school's civics club. Her goal is simple: make more local residents aware of an opportunity to support students from our community.
